Strange feeling....

Now, when we went to Rainworth the other weekend, I had a walk around what was Bilthorp Colliery (as part of my #getfitordie campaign ), where Suzie's Uncle Albert worked...

When we were there last Christmas, lots of twitter rumours about Maggie Thatcher dying, and it felt right that this would be the place to celebrate that event...it was just a rumour! But now the witch has gone, and so has the colliery, completely. To get to it, you walk along the rail line that took the coal away...

Now it looks a tad different...

 This led to what is now called Boundary Wood...you would not know that people lived, survived, died here...

Wasn't until i started walking over the old slag heap that you had any sense of the industrial landscape that was at the heart of the place.  A slab of concrete here and there...

 And underneath my feet, grey sludge...

It's Sunday So It's a walk :)

Had another walk around the home base




Again not too far, but nice and chilly today:)

Hols…day 4 ..and SUN!!

Tuesday 9th August.

Today was spent, in the main, on a wander around this wonderful place…

We (well I to be honest) had decided that we would experience Whitby through a day of cups of tea, chips, walking, beer & ice-cream…although the last is yet to happen!!

Parked up by the Abbey and wandered down across the bridge, mooching at the shops (charity of course) then down to the West Beach…where Suzie played Queen Canute…

Unfortunately – The North Sea was having none of that nonsense and GOT US…

Ah well – lots of sock shops…

Sea swell was high – some great splashing around the piers…

We ate chips and watched the bridge open…

We had the beer in the pub I reckon dad would have gone in…

Some of us (!!) got wet again…

And we had a look at Kiln Yard…those were the days RIP Auntie Doris, Dad, Auntie Dorothy, Auntie Mary….

Lastly ‘The Steps’…How Many Suzie??

Monday 8th August

Well knackered We went here…

came back down again….
