Christmas is coming....

Here we are, life is moving on:). A weekend away, Rainworth. It has become our annual pre Christmas trip, to see Suzie's Auntie Joyce, a very spiritedly near 90 young person !!

I had two options, go shopping, or, go to Mansfield and watch footie - oh hum....hard decision :)) So here I am sat in a trendy coffee bar ( The Green Bottle) with a rather nice Americano listening to a background musac of a rebellious flavour watching the world go by in the afternoon sunshine. It's a hard life, but some one has to do it !

This place is run/staffed by some very energetic young ( and youngish) ladies...feel knackered watching them!

Off to see 'The Stags', as Mansfield is known as, next...might just be a pub on the way though:)

Time for an update...

Sat here in Eastbourne in the sun, having a coffee, next to the English Channel, with a whitewashed pier in front of me...having just demolished a fairly sizeable Full English Breakfast and thought this would be a good time to update the world on the world of Fazey-Wood.

We've had a grand couple of days here, best part being no one else around! Yesterday it was damp, squally but distinctly not miserable.

Had a great wander down the front...
A wet esplanade :))
And along a wet, empty, very atmospheric pier...

Don't Jump....said the sign!
Italian for supper after an afternoon of drinking and reading and chilling :))

Avocado & prawn salad
Calzone
Scrumptious being the word of choice...

Next move, after Suzie has finished her mooching around the charity shops, is to have a gander at Beachy Head, then home via Mother's.

It is a bit nice here though, can see why people come back...

The Veg Nest...

It's taking shape...slowly !!

I had a couple of hours during the week and nearly killed myself !!!
We've planned and measured, and it's 4 plots approx 10' x 12', and I dug ...and couldn't breathe, heart rate 3x normal and hands shook like a wet dog drying itself !!

Back today, recovered (!), with reserves - Suzie !!

Her target is the rubbish & dross by the fence - building quite a pile !!

Me, continued to attempt slow suicide digging...

But, we will get there, and the tea was fine !!

Allotment..

It's moving on, lease papers arrived Friday, we paid a visit this morning, and they've strimmed it !!

We'd been out at a car boot sale looking for tools of the trade, spades and 'stuff', but low and behold, hidden from sight pre strimming was a handy little cupboard left by previous occupant, complete with fork et al..

Suzie is a tad excited and wants to EAT OUR VEG NOW !!

I want to grow chard as good as this !!

Hey, Ho away we go....it's planning time, then round up time !!

Allotment, plot 38b...

We, ( the royal we...more me than Suzie!!), have taken the plunge and decided to become part of the gardening nation...an allotment:))

Our local place has a waiting list of at least 4 years, so we are now the proud owners/tenants of Plot 38b Hertingfordbury Allotments..which is cool, it's quiet and has a pub within 30 yards!!

There is a BIT of work to do....

We will keep you informed !!

'olidays...

Just had a great week at Cousins Jen & Bob's pad. Took Mother away for a visit to her spiritual home, North Yorkshire.

Accommodation was interesting, Mother in the spare room, me in the 'shed' :))

To be accurate, it's a converted stable block, landlord had created a play area for their kids...it turned into a more adult play area as they grew up !!

Complete with bar for all my needs :))

Oh...and somewhere to sleep...

They views are spectacular, to the left you look over he Whitby headland and the Abbey...

and to the right the dale leading to the Moors...

All mod cons..bath & basin..

Running water...

And a lush breakfast menu...

Cockles...

Fish 'n chips by the pier...

And a meal with her fav niece :))

I had one real intake of breath moment, and that was on the pier...

Walked to the end and..

Went underneath....

Just loads of memories flooding back of times in the early morning, late at night going down there with dad fishing....oh youth!!

Welcome Maisie

We have a new addition with an old name to our ever extending family...a beautiful little ( very!!) girl, Maisie.

She weighed in at 6lbs 12oz at 2:10pm Thursday 2nd August - nice and gentle by the accounts of those that know these things...Big sister approves

and big brother

Was apparently more interested the big wide world outside the hospital window !!

We gave her time to adjust to the light before wandering down to Weymouth on Sunday to introduce the baby Maisie to her namesake Great Grandmother Maisie...

Now, neither Ben nor Debs knew about Mother's nickname, so no blame attached there then!!

When mother was born, she christened May Helen, but her Uncle Ted came wandering in, took one look, and stated "she's a Maisie..." and she has been Maisie to her family ever since. To everyone else she has been (just to confuse us mere mortals) called Mary the rest of her life!! At her first job there was three girls with the same name, so she became Mary...

No Suzie, you can't have one for Christmas...

Look, no screaming !!

Meanwhile, big brother was having fun with my glass case ( much more interesting than all than expensive stuff ...)

And big sister...

Wants to be a fashion designer 😊😊

Happy people :)))

Nostalgia...

Staying at Mother's for a few days while she has her kitchen remodelled by her Housing people & today took a short walk down memory lane...

Cemetery first - two reasons-:

1. This is where dad is...

2. In my Secondary ( 11 plus reject me... ) School days - used to cut through here on the way to Cestreham. Have vivid recall of ice and snow and finding a (blue) five pound note...when fags were 1p each that was a LOT of fags to a teen...

Then went to what used to be called The Griffin all through my youth...
Remember sat outside with coke & crisps on a sunny day ... Landlord was posh - real old school butler style posh ... As I grew into a drinker (and joined theRAF) & found out how respected my dad was by his pals there got to know him... Time moves on, but the bar is the same.

Walked back down Sunnyside Road ...recall walking & talking with Marianna,
( whatever became of her ?) & listening to Noel Edmunds on Radio One Breakfast Show ( we had tranny's in those days) playing W.O.L.D... played it again on the modern version ( iPhone 4s) ...Now doing what I couldn't then ...having a beer in the pub at the end of the road !!

This place used to be a bakery - we would stop and buy 10p worth of stale / broken cakes and biscuits...can't see health & safety allowing that nowadays !!
