Cemetery first - two reasons-:
1. This is where dad is...
2. In my Secondary ( 11 plus reject me... ) School days - used to cut through here on the way to Cestreham. Have vivid recall of ice and snow and finding a (blue) five pound note...when fags were 1p each that was a LOT of fags to a teen...
Then went to what used to be called The Griffin all through my youth...
Remember sat outside with coke & crisps on a sunny day ... Landlord was posh - real old school butler style posh ... As I grew into a drinker (and joined theRAF) & found out how respected my dad was by his pals there got to know him... Time moves on, but the bar is the same.
Walked back down Sunnyside Road ...recall walking & talking with Marianna,
( whatever became of her ?) & listening to Noel Edmunds on Radio One Breakfast Show ( we had tranny's in those days) playing W.O.L.D... played it again on the modern version ( iPhone 4s) ...Now doing what I couldn't then ...having a beer in the pub at the end of the road !!
This place used to be a bakery - we would stop and buy 10p worth of stale / broken cakes and biscuits...can't see health & safety allowing that nowadays !!
